Life Changes

Sunday Oct 22, 2023

I officially became a software engineer at LIDP in July 2021! Since starting, I have grown professionally and appreciate the opportunity to code nearly daily! I have progressed quite quickly in my job. I am in a leadership position on my team, providing project guidance, reviewing pull requests, and general mentorship. Every day, I develop software and offer consulting to LIDP's clients in the life insurance industry, which has been a great experience. I enjoy understanding a client's needs and bringing a software solution from concept to implementation to address those needs.

Unfortunately, life hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows. I lost my father to COVID-19 shortly after starting my new job, which turned my world upside down. It's been a struggle for everyone in my family since we lost him, and I'm still processing his passing today.

Running-wise, I ran my best marathon time at the 2021 Indianapolis Monumental Marathon with a time of 2:48:43, but I have since had several bouts of injury primarily due to improper nutrition and overtraining. I am happy to say I am now healthy and running happy again. I am giving another go at the marathon at Indy next weekend on Oct 28, 2023. Wish me luck!

Game Development Exploration

Thursday May 20, 2021

Recently, I've been diving into game development in both C++ and vanilla JS. I must say, it has been quite a lot of fun as I'm using some basic linear algebra and implementing some elementary Newtonian mechanics. Also, games naturally flourish with OOP designs, so developing games can force you to flex your OOP skills, which is an added bonus!

I start with following along a YouTube tutorial from javidx9 on creating a Tetris clone in C++ in the console. I always find it interesting seeing someone else's train of thought about how to solve a problem, and I really enjoy watching javidx9's content for that reason - I highly recommend checking his channel!

Anyways, for this update I've added a simple implementation of the 1979 classic, Asteroids.
